Experiencing art is an important part of life. Seeing drawings, paintings, photographs and sculptures can inspire and motivate you. Art can help you think creatively and possibly make you think about things that you’ve never thought about before. In short, art is essential!
There are many different ways to experience art. Museums are one of the most common ways. Most cities have art museums that are open to the public. Big cities usually have several different museums dedicated to different kinds of art.
I recently went to the Portland Art Museum in Portland, Oregon. Read on to learn about some of the amazing art I saw there.

The Portland Art Museum is currently hosting a special exhibition called “Masterpieces from The Rau Collection.” It features about 50 paintings from the collection of Dr. Gustav Rau. The Rau collection is one of the most important private art collections in Europe. Almost unknown until recently, it is now being presented in public in order to raise money for charity.
The priceless collection features contains a broad spectrum of styles and themes, ranging from historic scenes and portraits to landscapes and still-life works.
Among the numerous works, one that stands out is the delicate portrait of the “Woman with Rose” by Auguste Renoir, considered as one of the earliest Impressionist portraits. Another high point of the collection is the “Sea near L’Estaque” (1876) by Paul Cézanne.

Sometimes, art can seem boring to me because I don’t know all of the history behind it. However, for the Rau Collection the art museum had a special guided audio tour, which explained things about the artists’ lives and the things that were going on in their countries when they were alive. It made the whole experience fun and educational.
If you have some free time and you’re looking for something fun to do, I definitely recommend a trip to the art museum!
Have a great week!
