Wasting Time

Wasting Time

2. Read and Prepare - Read the introduction and prepare to hear the audio.

I don’t own a television, which seems a bit odd to most of my friends. I found that I would waste so much time sitting in front of the television like a zombie. Hours would go by and I would realize that I had done nothing but watch tv and eat. So I ditched the tv set. But now, I tend to waste most of my time on the internet. I guess it’s better than watching tv because I can seek out things that interest me. With tv you are spoon fed entertainment and you don’t have too much choice in what you can watch.
Listen to John and I talk about wasting time.

Dialog

John:  Man, last night was so nice. I just sat around like a couch potato all night.

Dave:  Yeah? What’d you do to kill the time?

John:  Ah, you know, just watched tv, bummed around, um, nothing too important. I like nights like that. Helps me relax.

Dave:  Yeah. Is that usually what you do, to waste time?

John:  Yeah. I’m not able to do it very often ‘cause I’m kind of busy, but, you know, it gives me time to, ah, kind’ve get into my hobbies and, ah, I’m kind of a junkie when it comes to watching political tv.

Dave:  Yeah! I was gonna say the same thing. When I’m on the internet I’m very easily sidetracked because I’m such a political junkie that, you know, I wind up on all these news websites.

John:  Yeah, you can get pretty well wrapped up in it if you start spending time. It’s kind of a cyclical effect.

Dave:  Yeah, it is.

Discussion

You ever have those days when you just can’t get motivated? There are a million things you need to do, but you just can’t be bothered to do them. You wind up sitting around doing nothing. I love those days because I can just chill out and unwind, but I know that the next day will be crazy and busy. So it goes.
