You’ve probably heard the song “Crazy.” It’s not just on the radio, it’s everywhere these days. It gets played in stores, at clubs, and it’s probably quite a few people’s cell phone ring. But have you ever heard of the band who sings it, Gnarls Barkley?
Dale loves “Crazy,” but he doesn’t know anything about Gnarls Barkley. Listen to Ella teach him a thing or two about one of his favorite songs.

Ella: So are you a fan of Gnarls Barkley?
Dale: Actually I’m a very big fan. But the only thing is, I only know one song. I don’t have the CD. I’ve heard that song all over the place, it hits all genres, and I love it. That’s it!
Ella: I don’t know, I love them. I feel like they’re in their own group.
Dale: It’s a group?!
Ella: Yeah, so there’s two guys. It’s Cee-Lo Green and Danger Mouse.
Dale: I thought that Gnarls Barkley was just one guy who had that one great voice that sang that one great song, “Crazy.”
Ella: “Crazy.” I feel like it could be a dance song, or just a ride in the car kinda thing, or just sing along with your friends. It has so many things going for it. Cee-Lo’s voice is like…I don’t even know how to describe it.
Dale: I don’t know the words exactly, but I remember when I first heard it in the car, and I didn’t even pay attention, the beat sounded great. That’s what caught me, was the beat. And that’s when it started for me. And I believe at this point that’s a one-hit wonder like Vanilla Ice. But, you know, it’s…Everybody has to have it in their decade.

Discussion
Both Ella and Dale love Gnarls Barkley’s song “Crazy.” But Dale doesn’t know much about the band. In fact, he didn’t even know it was a band. He thought it was just one guy named Gnarls Barkley.
Actually, Gnarls Barkley is made up of two guys, Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse. Dale doesn’t know any of their songs besides “Crazy,” and he wonders if they’ll be this decade’s one-hit wonder. He refers to Vanilla Ice, who sang “Ice-Ice Baby,” as a one-hit wonder. Another example of a one-hit wonder might be Los del Rio, who sang “Macarena,” or the singer of “I’m Too Sexy,” Right Said Fred.
Do you like Gnarls Barkley? Do you think they’ll be a one-hit wonder, or will they make other popular songs? Can you think of any other one-hit wonders?
