When it comes to the movies, teenage boys are king. That’s because boys between the ages of 14 and 17 see the most movies. So Hollywood studios try to make films that will attract this audience. And if you want to get a teenage boy into a movie theater, what could be better than hot women, fast cars, and big explosions?
That’s the basic formula that has made the Fast and Furious movies a success. The latest in the series, Fast Five, takes the same formula and adds more muscle by throwing in a new star, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Find out if Fast Five and The Rock stole Amy and Marni’s hearts.

Amy: Did you see Fast Five, Marni?
Marni: Is that that Vin Diesel racing movie?
Amy: Yeah. Vin Diesel and The Rock.
Marni: Oh yes yes. No, I haven’t seen it. I’ve seen the previews for it. Doesn’t look like my cup of tea, but have you seen it?
Amy: Wait, do you not like muscles and fast cars?
Marni: Well, fast cars maybe. Muscles, I don’t know. And The Rock, he looks so scary in the previews. What’s going on? Those muscles, they just seem out of this world.
Amy: They really are. To be honest, it was pretty silly. It was pretty over the top. I mean, I love heist movies, but this one had less heist, more explosions. Just crazy, you know, blowing up. Lots of fights.
Marni: So there’s a, you know, there’s the basic premise of a heist film. You plan the heist, and something goes wrong, and generally it’s always one character’s last heist. You know, they’re gonna retire soon…
Amy: Right, just make one more big steal, get tons of money, and then just leave the game forever.
Marni: Exactly.
Amy: That’s pretty much the premise. This one takes place in Brazil.
Marni: Oh, OK.
Amy: But yeah, that’s basically the idea. I guess the twist with the Fast and Furious movies is they’re car thieves. Usually you see jewel thieves or bank robbers. But these guys are car thieves and they are…well, Vin Diesel and the Rock, anyway, both very muscley and very bald.

Discussion
Amy recently saw Fast Five, the latest movie in the Fast and Furious series starring Vin Diesel. In the new movie, Vin Diesel is joined by another bald bodybuilder, the Rock. Marni doesn’t think she would like this movie.
Fast Five is a heist movie about car theives. Amy says it follows a typical heist movie plot. The car theives decide to pull off one last heist before retiring as criminals. Amy says that Fast Five has more crazy explosions and fights than other heist movies she has seen.
Do you like heist movies? What do you think about guys with big muscles? Do you like driving fast cars?
